Job Description

Primary Purpose: To assist business unit personnel with activities relating to health, safety, and compliance matters, and to provide staff assistance to management in compliance and other designated support programs, such as ISO 9001, or corporate initiatives related to Health & Safety. This position is intended to assist in the support managerial conformity, applicable regulatory requirements, and internal policies and practices.

Essential Functions and Requirements:

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Assists with the implementation of safety and compliance processes and procedures.
  • Provides support and supervision in reviewing and monitoring work practices of employees while in the field.
  • Remains on call to respond to emergency medical problems at the plant and escorts employees for medical, as needed.
  • Performs weekly inspection of all emergency eye wash and showers, maintaining, cleaning and refilling as necessary
  • Monitor, calibrate and maintain safety equipment (4-Gas Meters, Sample gloves etc.).
  • Inspect all production process fire suppression equipment.
  • Conducts inspections of all emergency fire sand, fire hoses, and fire house, maintaining, cleaning, and repairing as needed.
  • Performs inspections of all safety signs (PPE, Spill Kits etc.).
  • Conduct Key Procedure Audits in the field (review and entry).
  • Conduct EBS Observations in the field (review and entry).
  • Oversee the Respirator Program (approval for employees, fit test, tracking etc.).
  • Completing Intelex Action items that are assigned.
  • Co-Chair the Site Safety Committee.
  • Oversee emergency drills on-site (Fire/Spill/Evacuation, review, report etc.)
  • Monitor and oversee the First Aid Program (supply first aid kits and cabinet, train and certify employees).
  • Oversee Monthly site incident reviews with management/supervisors.
  • Oversee Monthly action item report for site management from Intelex.
  • Create and Manage the Housekeeping Program.
  • Co-lead training supervisors/managers on conducting drug/alcohol screening.
  • Maintain a First Aid Station withing the Safety office.
  • Perform weekly visits for the Night shifts.
  • Co-lead, manage and monitor the Safe Work Permit program (training, audits, review, field checks, etc.)
  • Maintain and update safety data sheet material (book and electronic version)
  • Co-lead on the Heat Stress Program.

Education: High school diploma or its equivalent required. Degree in Safety Related field preferred. First Aid/CPR/AED Certification a plus.

Experience: Minimum 1-3 years' experience working in health and safety related programs a plus.

Knowledge and Abilities: This is a safety sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function. General knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to the Environmental Services Industry. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts.
