Summary of Job Duties:The Payroll Technician works under the supervision of the Director of Human Resource and is responsible for the routine production of regular and special employee payrolls. This position is governed by established payroll procedures and agency/institution policy.

General Tasks

*Calculating and completing payroll authorization documents through Workday operating system.
*Reconciling payroll balances due to changes in employee status (e.g., promotions, demotions, upgrades, or other salary transactions).
*Identifying and correcting errors in payroll input documents.
*Verifying time and leave in conjunction with HR.
*Processing payments and maintaining ledgers for all deductions, in coordination with Business Office and HR.
*Maintaining payroll records.
*Compiling or assisting with various reports related to payroll.
*Providing technical assistance or other information related to payroll and/or insurance.
*Preparing reports that include earnings and tax deductions, semi-monthly, quarterly, and yearly.
*Calculating liabilities for employee taxes including reconciling and paying for federal, state, oasdi, medicare, unemployment, and workers' compensation.
*Processing W-2 forms to employees.
*Process wage garnishments and child support payments.
*Performing related responsibilities as required or assigned.Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus, one year of specialized training in bookkeeping or a related field; plus, two years of experience in payroll processing, payroll accounting, or a related area.

Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the Chancellor and the Human Resource Director.


Additional Information:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus, one year of specialized training in bookkeeping or a related field; plus, two years of experience in payroll processing, payroll accounting, or a related area.

Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the Chancellor and the Human Resource Director.
